I am a professor of physics at the University of Bologna, where I lead the DIFA–INFN Virgo group. I work on gravitational-wave data analysis: understanding detector noise, detecting signals, and using machine learning to do both better.
I joined the Virgo experiment as a PhD student in Pisa and spent twenty years at the European Gravitational Observatory, the last six as Head of its Data Science Office. I am a member of the LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA Collaboration and of the Einstein Telescope project, and a co-founder of EuCAIF, the European Coalition for AI in Fundamental Physics.
